Miss Kate's Baby Shower - Pretty in Pink Southern Inspiration

Hey Y'all... these photos are from the baby shower I threw for my very best friend. This was her second baby shower, so the focus was not on the gifts but celebrating the Mama to be and the upcoming arrival of her new baby girl, Kate, surrounded by family and friends.
In true southern style, the shower was held on a warm and humid August day. Our theme was being Pretty in Pink with Southern charm.
This shower was inspired by her love of good southern comfort food, the movie Steel Magnolias and my love for details!!

The invitations were custom designed and hand made. We used the petal card from Paper Source as our base. We lined the outside with pink toile stock paper and placed the wording inside on vellum attached to pink card stock. The outside of the invitation was adorned with a silver charm and tied with ribbon.

Guests entered the outside courtyard through an arch draped with pink feather boas.
In lieu of a traditional guestbook, guests were asked to write notes of love and good wishes to the new little Southern Belle and her Mama on fabric squares. The fabric squares were later sewn together to form a keepsake blanket for the baby.
Refreshing sparkling pink lemonade and custom printed water bottles.

Before brunch was served, guests enjoyed traditional Southern refreshments such as Sweet Tea and Mint Julep Punch served in mason jars. There was also a custom "mocktail" called Miss Kate's Sweet Pretty in Pinktini.

The big brother to be, Charlie and his cousin, Julianne enjoy some of the Pink Sorbet Punch.

Sweet Potato, Georgia Peach and Pecan mini pies
were also served during the pre brunch "cocktail" hour in the courtyard.

Guests entered the gazebo through an arch adorned with fresh flower clusters in shades of pink and tied with light pink organza bows.

The shower colors were "blush" and "bashful" with celadon green accents.

Custom designed pink frosted "K" sugar cookies were placed at each place setting, as well as hand made menus which doubled as fans.

The menus were printed on pink toile paper accented with pink tulle bows. "Southern Belles are made of sugar & spice and everything nice" was printed at the bottom of the menus. Guests were also give a sneak peek of what else was in store with "The Beauty Salon opens at 2:30pm".

Keeping with the Southern theme, the brunch included traditional Southern comfort
foods such as Banana Pecan Pancakes, Country Fried Chicken Pieces, Mama's Macaroni & Cheese, The Lady's Mini Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Plantation Barbecue Chicken Salad, Country Club Slaw and cornbread. The Country Fried Chicken Pieces were served in mini silver mint julep cups and Mama's Macaroni & Cheese was served in individual dishes.

The fabulous Chef who prepared delicious farm fresh eggs with all the fixins'... as well as yummy banana pecan pancakes!!!

After brunch, guests were treated to a day of pampering at Miss Kate's Beauty Spot. Guests were able to sign in for such services as pedicures, manicures and paraffin hand treatments.

The inside of the flower shop was transformed into Miss Kate's Beauty Spot.

Pink sandals were provided for guests receiving foot soaks and pedicures.

Another Southern tradition incorporated into the day, was the Charm Cake. Typically charm cakes are a custom at Bridesmaid's luncheons, however we chose charms that could later be placed on a bracelet for the baby. A beautiful and touching keepsake for the Mama and baby.

Each guest was able to pull a ribbon, the charms were attached to the other end and placed in the center of the cake. Once the charms were pulled, they were attached to the card with the meaning and guests were able to sign their name. This was such a big hit at the shower, the charms were all pulled before the photographer had a chance to take a picture!!! The cake photo above is from the Martha Stewart website.

The guest of honor and her Granny.

The amazing and decadent cake... the bottom tier was red velvet with a cream cheese filling and the top tier was a marble cake with a caramel mousse filling.

In between spa services, guests were invited to shop at Miss Kate's Beauty Bar. The sign read... "We invite y'all to indulge yourself in true southern hospitality and take home some goodies from our Beauty Spot... so that you can maintain your Southern Charm"...

Mini custom designed shopping bags.
The beauty bar's beautiful centerpiece was a custom designed "K" created with fresh pink carnations.

The Beauty Bar's "goodies" included mini bottles of pink country apple body lotion, pink nail polish bottles, mini nail files, candy necklaces and bracelets,
candles in mini mason jars, raspberry lip balm, taffy, chocolate baby shoes and candy galore!!!

As a parting favor, guests were each given mini mason canning jars filled with pink M&Ms and pink jellybeans. The labels on the jars read "In honor of your presence and in celebration of baby Kate's upcoming arrival, we have made a donation to the March of Dimes, in support of the foundation's mission... saving babies together". The March of Dimes was chosen because it has special meaning and is very dear to the Mommy to be's heart.

  1. Just came across this from a post on Hostess with the Mostess. Fabulous! Naturally the flowers are beautiful as are ALL the details. An event to remember for all involved, I'm sure!

  2. I saved the picture of the floral "K" in my inspiration folder for my daughter's 1st bday. I was trying to be budget conscious so I put my own twist on it and made it out of tissue paper. Thanks for the inspiration. If it's ok - I'm going to have catchmyparty.com link over to you in the tutorial I did for my Carnation-Pom Initial. I wanted to give yall credit for the inspiration. Please let me know if this is ok pam@pilotdesigns.com.

  3. wow i want to know how much that cost!
